Representatives of the Research Institute of Urban History on the 2019 ASEEES Summer Convention in Zagreb
June 14-16, 2019 the ASEEES 2019 Summer Convention was held on the basis of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb (Croatia). (https://www.aseees.org/summer-convention).
The 2019 ASEEES Summer Convention theme is "Culture Wars" with a focus on the ways in which individuals or collectives create or construct diametrically opposed ways of understanding their societies and their place in the world. As culture wars intensify across the globe, organizers invited participants to scrutinize present or past narratives of difference or conflict, and/or negotiating practices within divided societies or across national boundaries. Organizers invited papers and proposals that deal with this broader theme, with a range of possible interpretations.
The Convention brought together more than 600 humanitarian scholars from 32 countries.
Representatives of the Research Institute of Urban History, professors of Berdyansk State Pedagogical University Igor Lyman and Viktoria Konstantinova received the support from the International Association for the Humanities for participation in this Convention.
Igor Lyman had a presentation “Village vs City: war of rural and urban mentalities in the context of the anarchic peasant movement led by Nestor Makhno”, Viktoria Konstantinova – “Cultural wars of “tradition” and “modernity” in mentality of peasants and townspeople of Southern Ukraine (19th – early 20th centuries)”.
Another representative of the Research Institute of Urban History, docent of Zaporizhzhya National University Serhii Bilivnenko prepared for the ASEEES 2019 Summer Convention the presentation “The river of life and death: the Dnipro landscapes in World War II”.
