Berdyansk historians have returned from the archives of Germany

Professors of BSPU, staff of the Research Institute of Urban History Igor Lyman and Victoria Konstantinova in July 2018 worked in the archives of Germany, where they continued to prepare for publication the book “German Consuls in the Northern Azov Region”.

The search work was conducted, in particular, in Politisches Archiv des Auswärtigen Amts and Bundesarchiv (Berlin), as well as in Sächsische Landesbibliothek (Dresden).

Among other materials, Berdyansk historians have found and copied originals of consular reports sent from Berdyansk and Mariupol to Berlin in the early 20th century, as well as sets of documents of German consular offices in Berdyansk and Mariupol of the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Permission is granted to publish these source complexes.

The financing of the trip to the German archives was partially carried out by the General Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany in Donetsk / office in Dnipro within the framework of the project “History of the German Consuls in the Northern Azov Region”.
