Conference “Friends or Foes of Transformation?...” in Essen

July 7-8, 2017 the conference “Friends or Foes of Transformation? Economic Elites in Ukraine from Historical and Comparative Perspective” took place in the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI), Essen. The conference was organized by the interdisciplinary network „Ukraine: Post-Soviet Society in Transition”, represented by Olena Petrenko, Oksana Huss and Oleksandra Kryshtapovych.
Researchers invited to participate in the conference represented German Association of Ukrainian Studies, Ruhr University Bochum, National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Harvard University, Oxford University, Trinity College Dublin, M.S.Hrushevsky Institute of Ukrainian Archaeography and Sources Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Jagiellonian University, Ukrainian Catholic University, Free University of Berlin, Charles University Prague, University of Bonn, Hamburg School of Business Administration, Memorial Kyiv, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, German Institute for International and Security Affairs, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Uppsala University, Berdyansk State Pedagogical University, Karazin Kharkiv National University.
The discussion was focused on a wide range of issues related to the history and the present of economic elites.
The representative of the Research Institute of Urban History Igor Lyman presented a report “Connecting Ukraine, Great Britain and Germany: Family of British Vice-Consul John Greaves at the Forefront of Modernization at the Southern Ukraine”.
Now the questions of publication of conference materials in Ukraine and Germany are being clarified.
