“(Not)fidelity of the memory”

We all have seen how history is created. Modern history of Ukraine. Now everyone can remember almost all the key events of the dramatic four months. Another thing, how he (she) evaluates these events. Especially if he (she) has not seen the events personally.

We are talking about events that are still fresh in the memory. Several years later recollection and perception of events of November 2013 - March 2014 may be transformed significantly. Among reasons for this - the nature of human memory…

Even in this context, Mexican-Canadian-Ukrainian book with expressive title “La (In)Fidelidad de la Memoria” (“(Not)fidelity of the memory”) is extremely interesting and actual.

The book was published under the auspices of Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities “Alfonso Velez Pliyeho”), Canada's Laval University (Department of Studies of the Faculty of Literature and Humanities) and Berdyansk State Pedagogical University (Research Institute of Urban History).

That's why Research Institute of Urban History presented the edition “La (In)Fidelidad de la Memoria” in BSPU.

The book was edited by Mexican scientist Dr. Victoria Perez. The edition is a part of the project initiated by Victoria Perez to conduct international multidisciplinary symposiums on the problems of the study of memory (“SIMEM”»), the first of which was held in Puebla in November 2012, and the second - in November 2013. Co-organizer of the forums was Berdyansk State Pedagogical University, which cooperates with Mexican university from 2009. The presented book contains ten studies that highlight different aspects of collective and individual memory.

During the presentation of “La (In)Fidelidad de la Memoria” its editor, Victoria Perez and two Mexican authors - Tirado Villegas Gloria Arminda and Blanca Esthela Santibanez Tijerina from the auditorium of Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities “Alfonso Velez Pliyeho” of Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla spoke about the concept of the book and about their chapters of the edition (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-tYitXz-YY&feature=youtu.be).

Igor Lyman, co-author from Berdyansk, informed participants of the presentation about prepared jointly with Victoria Perez chapter devoted to studying of the oral history on the territory of the former Soviet Union. The book “La (In)Fidelidad de la Memoria” was posted on the website of the Research Institute of Urban History and sent to Ukrainian and Mexican libraries. Several examples of the edition in frame of the presentation were gifted to the library of BSPU.
