"AB URBE CONDITA: urban space of the Southern Ukraine in the last third of the XVIII - first half of the XX century"

Finally, after several postponements due to quarantine, on October 16-17, 2020, the International Scientific and Practical Conference "AB URBE CONDITA: urban space of the Southern Ukraine in the last third of the 18th - first half of the 20th century" took place.

The venue was Zaporizhzhya Regional Lore Museum.

Among the co-organizers of the conference is the Research Institute of Urban History. Therefore, it is logical that the director of the Research Institute of Urban History made a report "Research of urban history of the Southern Ukraine by the Research Institute of Urban History".

Panel discussions took place:

- “How are cities born? Modern methodological challenges of urbogenesis" (moderator Victoria Konstantinova),

- "The longevity of Zaporizhzhya tradition in the history of the cities of the Southern Ukraine: political situation or research perspective?" (moderator Vladimir Milchev),

- "Memory of a city: political and ideological construct or irresistible force of the living imagination?" (moderator Ruslan Shykhanov),

- "Architecture in the history of a city - the background or factor of historical events?" (moderator Pavlo Kravchuk),

- "What is behind the modernization of the Southern Ukraine - the practice of colonialism or market development?" (moderator Igor Lyman).

 Before the conference, dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the founding of Zaporizhzhya (Oleksandrivsk), a collection of its materials was published, on the back of the title page of which, among other things, it is stated: “A broad comparative retrospective (Berdyansk, Edmonton, Katerynoslav, Kremenchuk, Lviv, Marganets, Odessa, Kharkiv) reveals the current state of solving the complex scientific problem of the founding and formation of Zaporizhzhya”.

The conference included a presentation of the electronic resource "Zaporizhzhya Heritage" (https://heritage.zp.ua/), which accumulates digitized documents of archival, library, museum and private collections on the history of Zaporizhzhya.
