Marburg’s stage of the double workshop “Interurban knowledge exchange. Emerging Cities in Southern and Eastern Europe, 1870-1945”
The second (final) stage of the double workshop “Interurban knowledge exchange. Emerging Cities in Southern and Eastern Europe, 1870-1945” took place in Marburg (Germany) in May of 2017.
The workshop was organized on the base of Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe (Marburg). Organizers: Oliver Hochadel (Instituciу Milа i Fontanals, CSIC, Barcelona), Eszter Gantner and Heidi Hein-Kircher (Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe, Marburg).
Besides the organizers, Celia Miralles Buil (Universitй de Lyon), Igor Lyman (Berdyansk State Pedagogical University, Research Institute of Urban History), Cor Wagenaar (Technische Universiteit Delft), Barry Stiefel (College of Charleston), Lucila Mallart (University of Nottingham), Elena Canadelli (Politecnico di Torino) made presentations in Marburg.
Cathleen M. Giustino (Auburn University) and Tamara Bjažic Klarin (Institute for Art History, Zagreb) took part per skype.
Igor Lyman presented in Marburg the text “In search for “Best Practices” in Limitations of the Russian Empire: the Port City of Berdyansk on the Path to Modernization”, prepared in collaboration with Victoria Konstantinova.
After Barcelona’s stage of the double workshop, which was held in September of 2016 and called ““Urban Peripheries?” Emerging Cities in Europe’s South and East, 1850-1945”, it was decided to abandon the wording “Urban Peripheries”. Therefore, the focus was on studying interurban knowledge exchange. Both workshops are aimed at the preparation of a collective monograph devoted to this problem.
